Top 10 Roads – Speeding/ FPN’s (764A/22)

Request

I would like to know the top 10 roads where motorists were caught speeding from the start of 2022 up to now for each of Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell and Birmingham.

I would like the figures to include the name of the road and the total number of drivers caught speeding (issued with fines, given points on their licence or offered driving courses) for each borough/city. I would also like details of whether they were caught by a speed camera, police mobile van or some other way.

Response

Please note that these data should be interpreted with caution

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.

You have asked for the total number of drivers caught and then asked for the number of drivers “issued with fines, given points on their licence or offered driving courses” this doesn’t include those that are not yet complete, cancelled or sent for prosecution at court, so we have included the totals for these under “other” so the figures add up. We have provided an explanation at the bottom of the data. I trust you find this useful for the interpretation of the data provided.

These data only refer to the Camera Enforcement Unit data, local initiatives or CMPG may have issued fines, however to locate and retrieve this information would exceed the cost threshold under FOI.
