Social Media Guide (544A/22)

Request

I’d like to request the social guide of police, it’s probably the document cited on SOCIAL and DIGITAL MEDIA POLICY. “10.2 Guidance on getting the best out of social media is available here”, That makes reference to the existence of another document.

I am looking for a document that describes the best practices for social media, how to take the best photos with photos examples, engagement with community and etc.

Response

I can confirm that relevant information is held by West Midlands Police (see attached twitter_guide_2018.pdf). However, we are withholding some of that information (black redacted parts) by virtue of the following exemptions:

Section 40(2) – Personal information (applies to redaction under sub heading ‘Key contacts within Corporate Communications’ pg6)

Section 31(1)(a)(b) – Law enforcement (applies to redaction under sub heading ‘Receiving intel on Twitter’ pg6)

These exemptions and explanatory notes are shown here:

https://www.app.college.police.uk/app-content/information-management/freedom-of-information/#freedom-of-information-exemptions

Section 40(2) allows for personal data to be withheld where release would breach the third party’s data protection rights. It would be unfair to release this information where any person could be identified from the data and in this case the right to privacy outweighs any public interest in release.

In line with Section 31 above, I am required to complete a Prejudice Test/Public Interest Test (PIT) on disclosure. Please find this PIT attached.
