Seized Vehicles (659A/21)

Request

I would like the following information please.

1) Are any of the vehicles seized because of lack of insurance/tax etc actually sold at auction?

2) What is the criteria governing whether a vehicle is sold or sent to be crushed?

3) How much money is raised (if any) by the selling or crushing of vehicles that have been seized as a result of the driver not having insurance/road tax etc?

Response

With regard to questions 1 & 3, this information has recently been published on our disclosure log at the below link.

With regard to question 2, the criteria depends on the value of the vehicle. Where the vehicle has a low value (for example valued @less than £600 with a high mileage and lots of damages) it will not be authorised for auction but crushed/depolluted.
