Red light cameras (1341A/22)

Request

Q1: For the combined total of the 2020/21 and 2021/22 financial years please tell me which two automatic camera sites in your area recorded the most drivers going through red lights? By which I mean which two set of traffic lights in your area had the highest total of offenders for going through a red light in that two-year period.

Q2: For both sites please state: (a) the location of the traffic lights (b) how many activations the camera/mechanism detected in total of vehicles going through a red light, and (c) how many of these activations resulted in a notice of intended prosecution being sent out.

Response

Please find enclosed our response.

There are currently (as of 11 October 2022) no active automatic red-light cameras in the West Midlands Police area.

However, it is important to note that the Force operate regular Police patrols who will enforce any violations in relation to red light traffic offences.

As recommended as good practice by the Information Commissioner’s Office a version of this response may be published on the West Midlands Police website.
