Response

It is important to note that not every police officer is in a role that requires them to arrest people on a regular basis, this often results in no arrests.  However, these officers are still warranted and have the ability to arrest on or off duty.

1(a) Number of FTE *full time employed – police officers employed by your police force in the 12 months to June 2023

8454 individual officers in total employed by WMP at some point between 1/6/22 & 31/5/23

1(b) The number of FTE police officers employed by your police force in the 12 months to June 2023 who made zero arrests during that period.

All Police officers are warranted and therefore on or off duty regardless of role are able to arrest a person where it is so required. See answer 1a for number of officers.

  1. How many officers have been recruited under the officer uplift pledge?

For the official Uplift period (1st Oct 2019 to 31st Mar 2023) WMP recruited a total of 2,979 police officers which represented an increase in numbers of 1,376 (the rest replacing leavers).

  1. Does your police force have a dedicated burglary team?

Burglary forms part of neighbourhood crime and is investigated across the local CID teams.  All 7 Local Policing Area (LPA) has a dedicated Neighbourhood Crime Team.
