Our data are not organised in such a way as to allow us to provide this information within the appropriate (cost) limit within the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act (see ‘Reason for Decision’ below).
West Midlands Police do not record collisions as a direct result of drink driving offences. Drink driving offences are dealt with and recorded as a separate criminal offence.
The cause of a collision, is not always established at the scene of the RTC and as a result not recorded. This means that every individual RTC would need to be assessed for the time period to establish if someone involved was later charged with drink driving or not. Also drink driving can come in many guises, for example when alcohol was in the system of the driver when the vehicle was being driven, drunk in charge, or indeed when an individual has fled the scene after an RTC and located which then may result in a count back of alcohol units if this has been used as a defence.

West Midlands Police are unable to provide convictions as these are issued by Her Majesties Court Services, we do not hold the information in a retrievable format.
The only way to get the court disposals would be by individually assessing each of the defendants PNC (Police National Computer) record. This will exceed cost in relation to the FOI Act.
However, we can provide outcomes from the arrests at Q4:
Outcome | Total |
Adult Caution | 2 |
Adult Conditional Caution | 3 |
Charge | 1208 |
Charge – Postal | 1 |
Grand Total | 1214 |
