20 mph Zones (136A/24)

Over the last two calendar years in your police force area:
How many speeding offences in the 20mph zones have received a fixed penalty notice for speeds recorded between 21mph and 30mph which resulted in a) points on licence issued b) fines issued?
Response
It has been necessary to extract information for this request from our Penalty Notice Processing system (PentiP). However, the following caveats should be noted:
Regarding 2023, it has only been possible to provide data up until 22/07/2023 as cases after this can still be ‘live’ on the system due to Limitations of Proceedings being six months.
We do not have the details of the outcomes of those who ultimately were dealt with at court – where a fine/points may have been the disposal, or where there was more than one offence committed at the same time (such as speeding and no insurance) as these are not processed onto this system.

For clarity regarding the tables above – the total number of FPNs issued includes everyone who was issued a penalty (within the speeds mentioned), including:
- Those who attended a retraining course
- Those who complied by paying fine/having DL endorsed
As well as:
- Those who didn’t comply (went to court),
- Those who didn’t respond (went to court).
- It also includes any that were NFA’d (No Further Action) by Central Ticket Office, Camera Enforcement Unit, or the issuing officer.
It doesn’t include anyone who was passed to court for a multiple offence (as stated above, these are not recorded on PentiP).

The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.
The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.
