crime statistics about Child Abuse/Neglect/Cruelty (Not Sexual Abuse) in the West Midlands from 2011 to 2021, preferably the crimes recorded in relation to the above offence for each of the years in the time period mentioned.
We clarified the request with you on 15th March 2022 and you responded on 15 March 2022:
The type of year I require is calendar year, if it is easier, the time limit can be shorter, possibly 2015-2021 but preferably the longer period of time.
The specific offence is Child Cruelty – Section 1(1) Children and Young Persons Act 1933.
The age group is from 0 to 11 years old.
I would just like the statistics of how many incidents recorded of child cruelty but I don’t not require the outcome.
Therefore, your amended request reads:
For the years 2011; 2012; 2013; 2014; 2015; 2016; 2017; 2018; 2019; 2020; 2021 please provide the number of reported crimes for the offence:
Child Cruelty – Section 1(1) Children and Young Persons Act 1933 (where the victim / child is aged between 0 and 11 years of age, please provide breakdown of ages eg;

Please note that in 2019 we had a change of recording systems hence the two tables.

Comparing numbers of incidents/crimes can be misleading and does not necessarily indicate the likelihood of someone being a victim of crime. In addition, the number of incidents/crimes recorded in an area over a period of time can be influenced by a number of factors. Consequently, statistics on incidents/crimes for one period may not necessarily be a good indicator of future incidents in that area.
