Weapons Amnesty (4774_14)

I wish to inquire as to whether you have had a gun and/or weapons amnesty/amnesties over the past 10 years? I would like confirmation of when and how many weapons were received and would like to know what happened to all these items? Were any sold off or weapons deactivated?

West Midlands Police have no record of any gun amnesty in the last 10 years.

Below provides details of knife amnesties:

27 March – 1 May 2006 West Midlands Police knife amnesty – 1,600 knives recovered
24 May – 30 June 2006 – National knife amnesty – 3,258 knives recovered

The first amnesty held locally ran into the national amnesty. All of the knives collected were destroyed.

25 June 2009 – Coventry one day knife amnesty – 45 knives recovered, all were destroyed.

As recommended as good practice by the Information Commissioner’s Office a version of this response may be published on the West Midlands Police website.
