This request relates to those individuals that have been placed onto PNC with a Wanted/Missing marker.
1. How many people are currently being sought by West Midlands police. I’d like to know the overall figure at time of checking and also how many have been at large for more than a decade.
2. For those who have been missing for longer than 10 years I’d like a breakdown of the crimes they are being sought for, and also details of the person – pictures if possible. I’d like to know the top 10 criminals (alleged or otherwise) in terms of length of time on the run.
I can confirm that the information you request is held by West Midlands Police. However, although the majority of that information is attached (2470_attachment_01.pdf) I am withholding ‘details’ of the individuals, since I consider that the exemption outlined below applies to it.
REASONS FOR DECISION
The Freedom of Information Act places two responsibilities on public authorities, the first of which is to confirm what information it holds and secondly to then disclose that information, unless exemptions apply.
In this case the information is exempt by virtue of the following exemption:
Section 40(2) – Personal Information
This exemption and explanatory notes are shown here:
Section 40(2) allows for personal data to be withheld where release would breach the third party’s data protection rights. It would be unfair to release this information where any person could be identified from the data and in this case the right to privacy outweighs any public interest in release.
