Vetting Checks (107_17)
Request
Please could you provide me with details of the length of time it is taking to carry out vetting checks on serving officers.
How often are checks made on serving officers (for example every 5 or 10 years) and in what areas of the force are extra checks required when officers move (CTU or Firearms)?
What is the current backlog of officers waiting to be checked, the average length of time it takes to check them and the longest wait that any single officer has had to wait?

It takes 3 ½ hours on average per application

Checks are made every 10 years for Recruitment Vetting and every 7 years for Management Vetting. Additional checks would be required in the following areas of the force: CTU, PPU, Intelligence, Firearms

We are currently undertaking a review of all staff and Police Officers within the force to establish how many individuals require re-vetting. Until this exercise has been completed we are unable to fully answer this question. In terms of the average time please see point 1.
