Speed Cameras (506A/20)
Request
Which three fixed position speed cameras in your area were responsible for (i) the issuing of the most fixed penalty notices to suspected speeders and (ii) were activated the most time by speeding vehicles in the combined three year period of 2017, 2018 and 2019?
By this I mean which three cameras were the busiest across the entire three-year period rather than which three were busiest in each year. Hence the response should be just three camera sites and no more.
Please provide me with the position of each of the three cameras and the number of FPNs issued as a result of it “catching” suspected speeders in that three-year period as well as the number of activations logged at that site.
NOTE: Please include average speed cameras for this analysis where the cameras have remained in the same position.
Response
I can confirm that information relevant to your request is held, however some of this has been withheld as this would be exempt under Sections; 31 (Law enforcement) and 38 (Health and safety). To reveal the number of activations could enable individuals to draw conclusions about the likelihood of being caught speeding at the specified sites, encouraging more speeding and endangering the safety of individuals.
Please therefore find attached (506A_20_attachment.pdf), which details the three sites with the highest number of notices issued and in order to assist, the number of offences sent to the Central Ticket Office.
Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.
The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.
If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
