A single deck bus operated by Stagecoach had a road accident and finished up inside the frontage of a shop in Trinity street within the city centre. I believe a taxi was also involved in this incident. The date of the accident was 12 March 2012.
Can you please advise the outcome of the investigation undertaken by the Police. In particular I would like the immediate cause of the accident to be identified, the causal factors to be identified, the underlying factors to be identified and the factors affecting the severity of the consequences.
Please also supply Information about the learning points from the accident and also any recommendations that were made.
Driver Error or reaction is recorded as the contributory factor on the relevant statistical return (Stats 19 return).
I can also tell you that the bus was examined by a vehicle examiner who found no evidence of defects with the braking, steering or suspension systems being present prior to the incident. They concluded that the mechanical condition of the vehicle was not contributory to the collision. There were no learning points or recommendations made.
