Random Drug Test (268A/20)
Request
In the following article related to the PSNI it states that two officers had their random drug tests cancelled because they:
“were found to have shaved every hair from their body.
This resulted in the tests, which would have indicated if they had taken drugs in the last three months, being abandoned as they rely on analysis from hair samples.
The cops, who were based at the same station in Belfast, are still with the force.”
For the year 2019/20, please provide the number of random drug tests that:
you carried out on officers;
you found to be (i) positive. (ii)negative (iii) inconclusive;
were not performed because officers had shaved hair from their bodies.
Please provide information on the period of notice given to an officer informing them that they are to be tested for drugs.
Please provide the number of officers dismissed as a consequence of failing random drug tests.
Please provide the guidance concerning what happens to an officer who fails a random drug test, especially in relation to dismissal.
