How we are working to keep our FOI Requests running during COVID-19

Police Pension (11700_16)

I would like to make a Freedom of information application in relation to the police pension scheme.  Please can you advise me how many officers paid into the scheme in June 2000 and how many currently pay into the scheme in September 2016

In June 2000, 6,912 officers paid into the pension scheme (1987 Police Pension Scheme)

In Sept 2016, officers paying into the schemes were as follows:

1987 Police Pension Scheme                      2,034

2006 New Police Pension Scheme                 113

2015 CARE Police Pension Scheme            4,225

Total overall                                                  6,372

These figures are based upon pension membership records

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.
