Coronavirus (COVID-19)

How we are working to keep our FOI Requests running during COVID-19

Officer Convictions (11547/16)

How many current serving police officers, staff and employees within West Midlands Police have that are currently employed have either have accepted a police caution or been convicted of a criminal offence between 1st Jan 2014 and Aug 2016?

(please include the following:
Separate figures for each year,
Ranks within the force of those convicted,
Final outcomes (ie. Verbal, written, final written or dismissal) for any gross misconduct and special case hearings,
And finally the offences to which they were convicted for.

I have reviewed the original decision. I apologise for the length of time it has taken to provide this revised response (11547_Attachment). The data extracted from the database used to record officer convictions is not easy to collate into an FOI response. There are slight differences in the data provided for this response than for the original.

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.
If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
