We would be grateful if you could provide us with the following information in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000
In the ACPO ‘Communication Advisory Group’ document Guidance 2010 available at:http://www.acpo.police.uk/ProfessionalPractice/CommunicationsAdvisoryGroup.aspx in the section concerning ‘Convicted sex offenders in the community’ (p.18) it states that: ‘force media officers [should]… assist in reaching local protocol agreements with the media (para9.7)… [and]… forces are advised to agree procedures with local editors for handling media enquiries about individual sex offenders, and to ensure they are updated periodically’ (para9.9) Can you confirm that such a protocol and procedures are in place for your Force, and, if so, that such arrangements have been duly updated? And also whether this protocol is publicly available and, if so, can we be provided with a copy?
I am writing to inform you that we have searched our records and the information you requested is not held by West Midlands Police. West Midlands Police do not have a protocol or set of procedure with editors for dealing with these enquiries – each case is dealt with on an individual basis.
