I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information in regards to the number of hate crimes relating to religious based hate crime in Birmingham. In looking at religious-based hate crime, I am looking specifically into Islam targeted hate crimes.
I would like to know:
- How many hate crimes have taken place each month from June 2018 to June 2019?
- Categorised by the areas of Birmingham these have happened in (if possible give street names for the most common).
- Categorise by the type of crime (e.g. verbal abuse, physical assualt etc)
I am writing in regards to the delayed response to my religious targeted hate crime in Birmingham. I am unable to see why this would be a neither confirm or deny situation as you have provided me with the same details for other forms of hate crime in the past. Most recently with LGBT hate crime.
Please respond to me promptly with the information I require.
Please find data attached.
In addition to the attached response West Midlands Police can neither confirm nor deny that it holds any other information relevant to this request as the duty in Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 does not apply by virtue of the following exemptions:
Section 23(5) Information supplied by, or concerning, certain Security Bodies
Section 24(2) National Security
Section 31(3) Law Enforcement
These exemptions and explanatory notes are shown here:
Section 23 is a class based absolute exemption and there is no requirement to consider the public interest.
Sections 24 and 31 are prejudice based qualified exemptions and there is a requirement to articulate the harm that would be caused in confirming or nor that the information is held, as well as carrying out a public interest test.
