I wish to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act:
The number of candidates for your most recent (or significant) intake of Control Room Operators (eg. 999 Call Handlers) – sorted by age range (eg. 18-19, 20-30 etc) – and if they were successful in the recruitment process or not.
– 23 Successful
– 12 Unsuccessful
Thank you for your response requesting clarification of age brackets.
I would be grateful if you could provide me with the brackets which are smallest in range. Of course, the Ideal would be 18-19, 20-21 etc.
It is up to you as to what is accessible or what you can extract within the time frame for free requests.
It may assist you if I provide you with some context as to why I am requesting this information. I am looking to see how likely an 18/19 year old is to be accepted as a Contact Handler within WMP, as opposed to being even just a couple of years older – is it worth submitting an application at 18 or are most applicants of this age bracket not as successful.
I hope this clarifies my request.
Please provide the information for the most recent completed intake. Whatever is easiest to access, as long as it’s in the past few years.
Our data are not organised in such a way as to allow us to provide this information within the appropriate (cost) limit within the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act (see ‘Reason for Decision’ below).
Although excess cost removes the force’s obligations under the Freedom of Information Act, as a gesture of goodwill I have supplied information, relative to your request, retrieved before it was realised that the fees limit would be exceeded (see attached). I trust this is helpful, but it does not affect our legal right to rely on the fees regulations for the remainder of the request.
REASON FOR DECISION
Please note that researching each individual case would exceed the appropriate limit (FOIA, s.12). It is not possible to answer the question due to how Force Contact recruitment is working we are only able to provide data for the wider recruitment campaign and not just Control Room Operators.
The cost of compliance with the whole of your request is above the amount to which we are legally required to respond, i.e. the cost of locating and retrieving the information would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12(1) of the FOI Act 2000. For West Midlands Police, the appropriate limit is set at £450, as prescribed by the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004, S.I. 3244.
