Electric Scooters (12704/19)

  1. How many reports of accidents involving electric scooters (also referred to as ‘e-scooters’) did West Midlands Police attend in the 2018 calendar year? And the same question for 2019 to date. Please could you provide further information about each logged incident including:- The date of the callout/incident (specific date if possible, if not then the month and year)
    – Any basic information on the individual (gender, age, location)
    – If there were any injuries, and if so their nature, the cause (eg. collision with car / bike / a fall etc).2. How many (if any) penalty notices were issued in the 2018 calendar year and 2019 to date for an e-scooter being ridden on the pavement / road in a public place? For any that were issued, please could you provide any extra information available, for example, date, location, what specific penalty was issued and for what reason.

Please find attached our response for question 1.  Information in relation to question 2 is not held by West Midlands Police.  A fixed penalty notice cannot be inputted into Pentip (national Penalty Ticket Processing System) without a VRM which an e-scooter wouldn’t have.  These offences would have to be processed by a court instead, we wouldn’t hold a record of this.
