Coronavirus (COVID-19)

How we are working to keep our FOI Requests running during COVID-19

Driving FPN’s (4358_13)

1. I request details of the total number of £100 fixed penalty notices issued for careless driving since the measure was first introduced on August 16 by the Department for Transport.

2. I would like a breakdown for the first three months (to Nov 16) or by monthly breakdown if those totals are not yet available.

3. I also request a breakdown of those fixed penalty notices by category: for example, driving too close to the vehicle in front; hogging the middle lane of a motorway.

As at 16 November 2013, 4 penalty notices had been recorded as being issued since August 2013 for Driving Without Due Care and Attention. 3 of these were issued in September and 1 in October. Although we can confirm that 2 of these were for ‘Lane Discipline’ the reason for the other 2 notices is not known.

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.

If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
