Coronavirus (COVID-19)

How we are working to keep our FOI Requests running during COVID-19

Dogs in Vehicles (1168_15)

I am hoping to gather figures from across the UK for incidents of dogs being left in cars on a hot day.  Would you be able to provide figures via email for how many of these incidents your force has been called out to (i.e. someone has spotted a dog in a hot car and called the police to report it) between 1st Jan 2014 and 31st December 2014, and then the same for the time period 1st Jan 2015 to 31st March 2015, if any.  If these figures could be broken down by month that would be great.

Please find attached our response which provides the count of incidents using a keyword search ‘Dogs’ ‘Locked’ and a search of the MO notes for ‘Motor vehicle’. Please note that we are unable to relate each incident to the weather conditions on the day.

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.

If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
