  1. How many alleged sexual offences have been recorded at care homes and nursing homes in your force area?
  • Please provide the figures per calendar year for the following years: 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016
  • For example, in 2019, 15 alleged sexual offences were recorded at care homes and nursing homes within the force area
  1. How many alleged sexual offences recorded at care homes and nursing homes resulted in charges/ summons being made?
  • Please provide the figures per calendar year for the following years 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016
  • For example, in 2019, 15 alleged sex offences were recorded at care homes and nursing homes within the force area. 1 offence resulted in a charge being made
  1. If possible under freedom of information laws, may you please provide a breakdown of the alleged sex offences recorded by your force at care homes and nursing homes?
  • Please provide the figures per calendar year for the following years 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016
  • For example, in 2019, 15 alleged sex offences were recorded at care homes and nursing homes in the force area.

– 5 offences related to sexual assault on a female aged 13 and over, 10 offences related to exposure and voyeurism.

– 1 offence of sexual assault on a female aged 13 and over resulted in charges being made.

Pointers for clarity:

  • Alleged sexual offences can include but are not limited to: abuse of position of trust of a sexual nature, exposure and voyeurism, sexual activity etc. with a person with a mental disorder, sexual assault on a female aged 13 and over, rape of a male aged 16 and over, rape of a female aged 16 and over, sexual assault on a male aged 13 and over

Please note that these data should be interpreted with caution. Comparing numbers of incidents/crimes can be misleading and does not necessarily indicate the likelihood of someone being a victim of crime. In addition, the number of incidents/crimes recorded in an area over a period of time can be influenced by a number of factors. Consequently statistics on incidents/crimes for one period may not necessarily be a good indicator of future incidents in that area.

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.
