Bodies Recovered (388/16)


Under the Freedom of Information Act please provide me with details of all bodies recovered from waterways in the West Midlands police area that the force has attended since January 1 2009 to today’s date.

With each case please provide the following details

Date of discovery
Sex, age and name of deceased
How the death was recorded and/or investigated such as non suspicious, unexplained, suspicious, murder etc
if anything other than non suspicious what was the outcome of the investigation and did any charges follow
if so please give details of the outcome of any prosecution


We can confirm that the information requested is held by West Midlands Police. However, while some of this information is attached to this email I am afraid that I am not required by statute to release all of the information requested. Please find attached some of the information requested. This letter serves as a Refusal Notice under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) for the parts of the request that have not been released.


The Freedom of Information Act places two responsibilities on public authorities, the first of which is to confirm what information it holds and secondly to then disclose that information, unless exemptions apply.

In this case, this letter represents a Refusal Notice for the parts of the information that have not been released. The information is exempt by virtue of the following exemptions

Section 30 (1)(1)(a)(b) Investigations and proceedings conducted by Public Authorities
