Response

It is the responsibility of each unit to provide support to victims regardless of their ethnicity.
The PPU have a dedicated CSE Central Team who manage referrals and assist to target perpetrators of CSE. This team consists of a Detective Inspector I, 2 x Detective sergeant and 10 x Detective Constables.

In addition to this, each Child PPU team (each of our 10 x LPU’s have a Child PPU team) have a dedicated CSE co-ordinator (10 x Detective Constables). Furthermore, each of our Child PPU teams investigates all CSE safeguarding referrals and investigations. CSE is core Child Abuse and as such, is investigated within our Child PPU teams. It is therefore impossible to provide a definitive total number of officers who deal with CSE within the PPU, as in previous years it continues to be a main focus for the force and anyone of our Child PPU officers will investigate/safeguard re a CSE complaint as part of their core roles and responsibilities.
