Request

1. Is specific training given to all or any West Midlands Police (WMP) constables for dealing with ‘mental capacity’ issues under provision or the Mental Capacity Act 2005?

If Yes:

Please give the title(s) or description of the relevant training courses

How often is refresher training given?

2. Is specific training for dealing with ‘mental capacity’ issues under provision of the of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) given to West Midlands Police (WMP) constables who work in or with ‘street triage teams’ (STT)?

If Yes

Please give title(s) or description or the relevant training courses?

How often is refresher training given?

3. Please provide a copy of policy adopted by WMP to assess citizens without a mental history, for possible ‘mental capacity’ issue under provisions of MCA.

4. Please provide a copy of procedures (and/or code of conduct) adopted by WMP for its officers and other staff to deal reasonably, fairly and lawfully with ‘mental capacity’ issues under provisions of MCA.

5. Please provide a copy of WMP policy and procedures for reasonable and lawful approach an individual citizen who lives alone and where WMP concludes that they need to be approached regarding ‘mental capacity’ under provisions of MCA.

6. During each of the previous four year and the current period to 31 May 2016, please say:

(a) How many individuals without prior history of mental issues/illness, has WMP recorded as requiring ‘mental capacity’ assessment under provision of MCA.

(b) How many individuals with prior history of mental issues/illness, has WMP recorded as requiring ‘mental capacity’ assessment under provision of MCA.
