I am writing to with a freedom of information request for west Midlands police’s policies and procedures on Police Information Notices – Harassment Warnings. I would like to understand the policies/procedures for issuing, storing and deleting these types of notices.
There is no specific West Midlands Police (WMP) policy for harassment warning notices. We follow the College of Policing’s guidance on PINs:
WMP follow the College of Policing’s guidance for storing, reviewing and deleting information. This is called the Management of Police Information (MoPI) and the policy can be found at the following link:
The retention period for non crime harassment matters is 6 years. An extract from the WMP retention schedule for non crimes has been provided in the attachment (6594_Attachment).
For crimed harassment matters, there is a 6 year retention period if it falls under a MoPI group 3 category, or a 10 year retention period if it falls under a MoPI group 2 category. A list of harassment offences and the relevant MoPI category has been provided in the attachment (6594_Attachment).
