Cyclist Collisions (165_15)

Request

I’d like to know which roads in the West Midlands have the most collisions involving cyclists.

For 2012, 2013 and 2014 I’d like to know how many collisions involving cyclists in total for each year, and for each year the top 20 roads, and the number of collisions for each.

I’d also like to know the top 20 specific named roads for cycle collisions in total across all three years. For each of this last top 20 I’d like to know the type of accidents for each road – e.g. 20 minor injury incidents, 3 serious, 1 fatal etc.

Response

Please find attached (165_attachment_01.pdf). Please note, we do not hold a ‘top 20’ list as requested, therefore I have supplied the dataset that shows the road name (road name 1) and the closest secondary road to the incident (road name 2) so that you are able to determine this information.

It should be noted that we are aware of approximately 2,000 collisions that have not yet been fully processed and/or loaded onto the accident database for 2014. These may or may not involve cyclists.

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that these data have been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when those data are used.

If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
