Response

There is currently no specific process in place although work is currently underway to better understand how this could be achieved.

Whilst there is a considerable level of focus on the local ‘engagement’ applied at a variety of levels (ward/ neighbourhood, sector/ constituency, LPU etc.), ‘engagement’ has no unit of analysis as such, hence the challenge for forces up and down the country is ‘how do we measure engagement’? For example, a quantitative approach through time spent or number of meetings, or a qualitative approach through outcomes and feedback?

There is a clear recognition by WMP that community engagement is a pivotal part of local policing and a large part of the governance (around engagement) for WMP is driven by the Local Policing Leader’s Forum (LPLF).

If so how many meetings has your Police Force held for the each of the last 5 financial years, or since the creation of your outreach programme.

Not applicable, as above

As recommended as good practice by the Information Commissioner’s Office a version of this response may be published on the West Midlands Police website.
