ANPR Cameras (976_15 )

Request

I am writing to enquire about the details of ANPR cameras currently in your district. It would be hugely beneficial for us to find out:

1) The current total number of ANPR cameras in your district
2) The names of the roads and streets covered i.e. camera locations
3) How many days a week/month/year (as appropriate) these cameras are monitored
4) How many hours a day/week/month/year (as appropriate) these cameras are monitored

Response

We can confirm that is held by West Midlands Police. However, while the majority of the information is attached to this email I am afraid that I am not required by statute to release all of the information requested. this letter serves as a Refusal Notice under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

REASONS FOR DECISION

The Freedom of Information Act places two responsibilities on public authorities, the first of which is to confirm what information it holds and secondly to then disclose that information, unless exemptions apply.

In this case, this letter represents a Refusal Notice for the information is exempt by virtue of the following exemptions

Section 31 (1) (a) (Law enforcement)
Section 24 (1) (National Security)

These exemptions and explanatory notes are shown here:

http://www.west-midlands.police.uk/docs/advice-centre/foi/exemptions.pdf

In line with the above, I am required to complete a Prejudice Test/Public Interest Test (PIT) on disclosure. This is detailed within the attachment.
